Dr. Alan Winter Appointed as First BC Innovation Commissioner

Honorable Bruce Ralston, Minister of Jobs, Trade and Technology, announces the appointment of Dr. Alan Winter as BC's first Innovation Commissioner.

The BC tech sector has been growing rapidly over the past few years—a recent BC Stats report cited 2016 as a benchmark year for employment, wages and revenue in the industry. In order to support this expanding sector, the BC Government has announced the appointment of Dr. Alan Winter as BC’s first Innovation Commissioner.

Dr. Winter’s extensive resume includes 15 years as the president and CEO of Genome BC, and he has served as a director of over 30 organizations, including the Business Council of British Columbia and Alberta Innovates. He will be working to create partnerships with the federal government, facilitate national and international connections for BC businesses, and promote BC as a lucrative investment location. One of his first projects will be championing Canada’s Digital Technology Supercluster.

“Alan Winter’s breadth of senior leadership experience in the biotech and information technology fields makes him the ideal ambassador for our tech and innovation sector,” said Minister of Jobs, Trade and Technology Bruce Ralston.
