The Province has unveiled the final two pillars of the #BCTECH Strategy, which aims to create an environment for further growth and investment in B.C.’s tech industry.

The strategy has 50 actions to deepen B.C.’s tech talent pool and make it easier for entrepreneurs to access markets, including selling to government. Educational programs will provide students with the chance to learn coding by Grade 9 thanks to new curriculum, expanded tech-related post-secondary programs, and more opportunities to gain relevant work experience.

These actions build on the foundation established with the VC announcement in December. We’re all aware that early stage financing has been on the minds of many growing companies, especially those with hopes to stay in B.C. where they started. This new fund will not only invest directly in B.C. firms, but is likely to result in a significant multiplier effect as more VC money flows into the province.

The province is also looking at innovative ways of doing business together, starting with B2B meetings with key government decision makers at the #BCTECH Summit and partnerships to develop APIs for government data through the BC Developers’ Exchange.

It’s an exciting time for technology in B.C.
